Olivia Rodrigo Stops Handing Out Contraceptives After Backlash

(RepublicanJournal.org) – Singer Olivia Rodrigo started as a teen star on the Disney network, but recently she’s morphed into a pro-abortion activist, going so far as distributing contraceptives and even abortion drugs at her concerts. Now a public backlash has forced her to stop.

In mid-March, media began reporting that Rodrigo, whose entertainment career began on the Disney comedy show “Bizaardvark” in 2016, when she was 13, was distributing “Plan B” emergency contraceptives at her concerts and donating part of her profits to The National Network of Abortion Funds, a pro-abortion nonprofit. She also allowed local abortion groups to operate at concert venues, where they handed out condoms, lubricant, and other “reproductive health resources.”

On March 12, this went viral on social media, when fans posted pics of Plan B pills they’d been given at a concert in St Louis, Missouri. Missouri was the first state to change its abortion laws after the repeal of Roe v Wade.

Since moving on from Disney and launching her music career, Rodrigo has been a strong advocate for abortion. On her 2022 “Sour” tour she called on her audience, who are mostly teenagers, to protect abortion rights. Later, after the Supreme Court struck down Roe v Wade, she publicly criticized the justices. However, it seems the sudden surge of media attention on what fans are being given at her concerts is too much for her. On March 14, the message went out from Rodrigo’s management team, telling abortion groups to stop handing out condoms and pills. The official reason is that “children are present at the concerts.”

Abortion activists are complaining about the policy change, with Destini Spaeth of the Praeri Abortion Fund saying “there’s something really positive” about 15-year-old girls having Plan B and condoms. The DC abortion fund says it’s going to hand out Plan B on the sidewalk in front of the venue instead. However, it seems Rodrigo got the message that handing contraceptives to kids isn’t a popular move.
