DeSantis Stands With Israel, Plans to Sanction Iranian Businesses in Florida

(RepublicanJournal.org) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis joined numerous other state lawmakers to announce a proposal increasing sanctions against Iran, who they claim played an active role in the recent Palestinian attacks on Israel. They want to limit Iranian industries that do business with their state, making it clear that they stand firmly with Israel.

DeSantis announced the proposal on October 10. He, along with Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez, Florida Speaker Paul Renner, and Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, believe cutting off Iran’s resources is vital to ending the Hamas’ war on Israel.

Hamas, a militant Palestinian group that has been battling with Israel over long-standing land disputes, struck civilian cities on October 7. The New York Times states that invaders slaughtered over 900 people, wounded another 2,600, and took roughly 150 more hostage.

The Washington Post reports that the militants who waged the recent deadly attack had received money for weapons, military training, and help planning the move from allies in Iran. The infusion of funds also helped to improve their technology, allowing them to build drones and rockets — both with advanced navigational systems. The improvements appeared to give the Palestinian attackers a tactical edge that had been previously beyond their reach.

Many Republicans are also putting blame, according to CBS News, on President Joe Biden. They say the administration was mistaken in its decision to unfreeze $6 billion in oil assets belonging to the Iranian government and insist it went to help the jihadists’ cause. Biden officials fired back against the accusation, insisting that the funds are all still in the bank. The money, according to the administration, is only allowed to go to food, medicine, and other humanitarian aid.

The explanation isn’t good enough for leaders like DeSantis, who point out that allocating the money doesn’t change the fact that the United States is still lining terrorists’ pocketbooks.
