Pink Floyd Bassist Defends Palestinians, Will Not Condemn Hamas

(RepublicanJournal.org) – The war between Israel and Hamas is showing us a new side of many public figures as politicians and celebrities come out in support of the Iran-backed terror group. In other cases, we’re finding out that people hold views to a much more extreme degree than we’d ever suspected. If you’re a fan of legendary bassist Roger Waters you could be in for a disappointment.

Roger Waters, the English musician who co-founded Pink Floyd in 1965 and wrote most of its songs until he left the band in 1985, is a well-known supporter of Palestine. In fact, if you do some digging, he’s a very outspoken supporter of Palestine and has been accused of anti-Semitism multiple times.

In 2013, the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, a Jewish human rights association set up by the famed Nazi hunter, complained after Waters used a pig-shaped balloon marked with a Star of David as part of his stage sets. The same year, the musician compared Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians to Nazi Germany’s treatment of the Jews. This February he was scheduled to perform in Frankfurt, Germany — but the city canceled his show, citing multiple times he’s been accused of anti-Semitism.

Up to now, Waters’s behavior has been worrying but borderline. Now he’s moved into straight-out genocide denial. Following the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel, Waters minimized the atrocity, saying “Let’s wait and see what happened.” He then claimed the Hamas attack, which directly targeted civilians instead of military targets — was “justified.”

He also denied that Hamas had decapitated Israeli babies. In the month since the attack, Waters has continued to talk down the scale of the massacre. On November 7, he speculated that it was a “false flag” operation, and repeated his claim that Hamas was justified. From flirting with anti-Semitism, Waters has now crossed the line into open support of terrorism.
