(RepublicanJournal.org) – First Lady Dr. Jill Biden recently unveiled the White House’s 2023 Christmas video, drawing scrutiny across social media over the bizarre spectacle. The clip features talent from Dorrance Dance, with tap performers offering an over-the-top take on the “Nutcracker Suite” ballet. Conservatives are slamming the first lady, many noting the contrast between the current presentation and former First Lady Melania Trump’s classic displays.
Dr. Biden posted the new Christmas video on X, the social media outlet formerly called Twitter, on December 13. It opens innocently enough with a dancer snapping their fingers and tapping down a candy cane-decked hall, but as the cast makes its way through the different rooms of the White House, the video derails into a creepy display of weird headdresses and bizarre costumes. Tchaikovsky’s iconic music is nowhere to be found, with a glitzy big band number playing in its place.
The first lady hoped to offer “[a] bit of magic, wonder, and joy” with the video, but most of the responses on Twitter were far from kind. One X re-poster called the clip “Disney presents Clockwork Orange.” Another member of X described Dr. Biden’s post as “mentally ill.” Other posters took the opportunity to compare this year’s offering with previous displays former First Lady Melania Trump shared while she was in the White House. They noted the stark differences between Trump’s “elegant” and “breathtaking” style and Biden’s weird attempt at a whimsical winter wonderland.
The White House Historical Association shares that former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy started the tradition of decorating the presidential home’s Blue Room using a Christmas theme. She, too, chose imagery from the “Nutcracker Suite,” alongside angels, toys, and birds, in 1961. The Bushes went with the famous ballet, as well, in 1990. Other past themes include “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” “Home for the Holidays,” “A Timeless Tradition,” and “American Treasures.”
