Arrests Made After Protestors Surround Chuck Schumer’s Home

(RepublicanJournal.org) – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) faced a huge protest outside his home last week, as far-left activists continued to turn on mainstream Democrats. Hundreds of demonstrators agitating against Israel blocked traffic until police moved in and started arresting them. Some reports say at least 200 may have been detained.

Around 8 p.m. on April 23, an anti-Israel group, Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), organized a protest outside Senator Schumer’s New York City home. A crowd of hundreds quickly gathered, displaying a large sign reading “Jews stop arming Israel” and chanting pro-Palestinian slogans.

Schumer, who is Jewish, has been attracting hostility from leftists over his support for Israel since last year’s October 7 massacres by Hamas. Although he recently called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign, he’s generally been a strong — sometimes outspoken — supporter of the Jewish state, supporting its blockade of Gaza since the area’s population elected Hamas in 2007 and praising former president Donald Trump for moving the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

With radical Democrats now solidly aligned with the Palestinians, Schumer’s position on the conflict isn’t going down well with his party’s far left. Last Tuesday’s protest quickly turned heated, with chants accusing Schumer of supporting genocide. Police warned the demonstrators to stop blocking traffic and stay on the sidewalk, but the mob ignored them. At that point officers moved in, supported by the NYPD’s Strategic Resources Group, and started making arrests. Police sources say around 200 people were detained.

JVP has been calling for a ceasefire since Israel began retaliating for the October 7 atrocities, and its activists are furious that many mainstream Democrats — including Schumer — support continued US military aid to the country. The issue could cost the Democrats a lot of votes in November, as the far left refuses to back the party mainstream’s pro-Israel stance.
