Actor Spencer Milligan Dies at 86

(RepublicanJournal.org) – “Land of the Lost” was a popular sci-fi television show that aired in the 1970s. It featured Spencer Milligan as Rick Marshall, who, along with his family, found himself in an alternate universe, the “lost world” of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. Sadly, Milligan recently passed away.

TVLine confirmed Milligan’s death, which was reported in a Huehns Funeral Home obituary. The actor, best known for his role in “Land of the Lost,” passed away at the age of 86 on April 18. No cause of death was listed.

The actor who played Milligan’s on-screen son, Wesley Eure, posted a tribute on Facebook saying he had heard the rumors of the actor’s passing but recently received confirmation. Eure said Milligan “was a very private man who lived a wonderful life away from the world of Hollywood,” and he was still processing the news of his death.

Indeed, there’s not much known about Milligan’s life off the screen. He was born in Oak Park, Illinois, in September 1937, but called Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, home for most of his life. He loved the arts and underwent training at the Lee Strasberg Senior Workshop in New York and the Joan Darling Actors Workshop in Los Angeles.

Milligan didn’t have a very prolific career, but he was noted for the roles he played. He started with stage productions in his home state, then moved to Malibu, California, in the 1970s, where he remained until the mid-1990s. While “Land of the Lost” was his steady role — he left the show after demanding he and the cast should be paid for merchandise deals using his likeness — he only played minor roles in other productions. Those include “Call of the Wild,” “Mike Hammer,” “Bionic Woman,” and “McCloud.”

Milligan is survived by his wife, Kerry, whom he met in 1991 and married in 2002, and his godchildren.
