(RepublicanJournal.org) – In August 1967, the movie “Bonnie and Clyde” hit the theaters. It depicted a fictional telling of the real-life criminal couple that perpetrated crimes during the Great Depression. One of the character actors in the movie recently died.
Evans Evans who played many minor character roles, but was perhaps best known for appearing in “Bonnie and Clyde,” passed away on June 16. She was 91 years old.
Evans was born on November 26, 1932, in Bluefield, West Virginia. She became an actress in the 1950s, landing small roles in Broadway plays, including the 1957 production of “The Dark at the Top of the Stairs,” and two performances in the 1960s in “A Distant Bell,” and “The 49th Cousin.”
The character actress’ most prominent role was that of Velma Davis in “Bonnie and Clyde.” She played alongside Gene Wilder, who was making his first big screen appearance, as his girlfriend. The couple is kissing when they notice their vehicle being stolen. They give chase, but then think better of it and turn around, at which point they become kidnapping victims of Bonnie, Clyde, and their gang. That appearance gave Evans some clout in the industry.
Evans married a film director John Frankenheimer in December 1963, after meeting him on the set of “All Fall Down” in 1962. Their marriage spanned decades until his death from a stroke at the age of 72 in 2002. She appeared in some of his films, including “Grand Prix” and “Dead Bang.”
The actress made a single appearance in several television shows, as well. She was in “The Twilight Zone,” “Alfred Hitchcock Presents,” and “The Donna Reed Show,” to name a few. She was in other films, too. Viewers can catch her in small roles in “Are You Afraid of the Dark?,” “Prophecy,” and “The Iceman Cometh.”
Evans lived in Sherman Oaks, California, at the time of her death.
