(RepublicanJournal.org) – John Kerry is a prominent figure in US politics. The 80-year-old served as the lieutenant governor of Massachusetts before joining the Senate in 1985. He became the US Secretary of State in 2013, a role he held in the Obama Administration until 2017, and served as the nation’s first climate envoy from 2021 to 2024. He even took a shot at the presidency in 2004. He’s now under fire for reportedly using an alias during his time as secretary of state.
On Monday, June 17, Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) sent a letter to current Secretary of State Antony Blinken. In it, they call on the history of government officials not using proper protocol with emails. The correspondence also served as notification to Blinken that they received whistleblower disclosures that Kerry used an alias email while he was in the role.
They want to know if, while Kerry was using the email, [email protected], he complied with the necessary regulations and federal records laws for official email communications. They further inquired as to whether any emails with that address were included in any Freedom of Information Act requests.
Grassley and Johnson have asked Blinken for more information based on the whistleblower details. Among the questions posed:
- Did then-Secretary Kerry use the above-stated email while in his official capacity?
- Did he comply with the necessary regulations? If so, the senators want to know how his government records were archived and stored.
- Was the email used in communications with foreign government officials? If yes, did they include classified information?
- Was the email used during communications about the Iran Nuclear Deal? If yes, was any of the information sent classified?
The GOP senators are also asking for all records for the email, including messages sent to and from the address and where they might have been cc’d. They have asked for Blinken to respond to the questions by July 1.
