(RepublicanJournal.org) – A former employee of the state of Massachusetts Department of Children and Families stands accused of using fraudulent documentation to enroll in three different high schools during the 2022-2023 school year. The Boston Herald first reported on the bizarre incident, which came to a head after staff members at The English High School found issues with the 32-year-old suspect’s enrollment paperwork.

The woman, who remains unnamed in current sources, started attending the high school on June 8. Less than a week later, on June 14, she had a man pose as her father and tell the office staff that he was pulling her from the institution due to bullying. Because only about a week of classes remained, the move raised red flags, prompting an investigation. The staff uncovered a complex ruse, according to Boston 25, in which the suspect allegedly used multiple pseudonyms to pose as a student and navigated the transfer process to move between schools.
The motivation behind the woman’s actions remains unclear, and the investigation is still in its early stages, but no children or staff members have reported any injuries or incidents related to her attendance. Still, the breach has raised questions regarding the ease with which the suspect manipulated the system and whether safety issues confront legitimate students and faculty members.
Even more concerning is the fact that this wasn’t an isolated event. In March, 29-year-old Hyejeong Shin pleaded not guilty to the same crime in New Jersey. In May, she received an option to attend a three-year pre-trial program instead of jail time, according to Bronx News 12, because of her otherwise clean record and relatively harmless motive. Earlier in June, police arrested a 28-year-old woman for posing as a high school student. ABC News reported that Martha Jessenia Gutierrez-Serrano had allegedly used a fraudulent birth certificate to enroll in ninth grade because she wanted to learn English.
