Ron DeSantis Is Being Hailed as “Trump With Substance”
(RepublicanJournal.org) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) became a household name in 2020 when he repeatedly stood up to the federal government’s overreaching mandates and ensured his constituents would keep their freedom in all areas of life. This southern leader faced a major challenge when Hurricane Ian destroyed thousands of homes and businesses while killing dozens of Floridians. DeSantis weathered both the actual and political storm well, to the point one former spokesman for the Republican National Committee (RNC), Doug Heye, called him a “Trump with substance.”
In mid-September, Governor DeSantis helped fly a group of migrants from Texas to Delaware in a bold move to raise awareness of the ongoing crisis at the southern border. The Biden Administration expressed its disapproval of the choice. Yet, just days later, the two parties had to work together to bring together federal relief for the damage done by Hurricane Ian.
Doug Heye told The Hill that DeSantis is able to “play both the political culture warrior and the in-charge governor of the entire state,” which led to the comparison.

This high praise comes as many Americans wonder if the Florida governor will make a 2024 presidential bid. If he chooses to take on such a challenge, compliments such as this one could make him an even stronger candidate. Do you agree with Heye’s new nickname for DeSantis, or should he have gone a different route?
