New Biden “Blunder Act” Hits Congress

New Biden

(RepublicanJournal.org) – When President Joe Biden ordered US troops to leave Afghanistan last summer, most people were unprepared for the chaos that ensued in the following days and weeks. The move, which is widely regarded as a failure, left numerous consequences including 13 people killed by a suicide bomber at the Kabul airport. Now, Republicans are trying to get the commander in chief to acknowledge the effect his choices had on Afghanistan and its people as well as America and the US economy.

Florida Lawmaker Introduces the Big Biden Blunder Bill

US House Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) has introduced the Big Biden Blunder Act, also known as the BBB Act, to make the Comptroller General of the US provide a report on the economic effects of Biden’s Afghanistan withdrawal. In a statement to Fox News Digital, the Florida lawmaker said the removal of military troops from the nation was “disastrous, hasty, and poorly executed,” leaving behind “a permanent stain on our nation’s military prestige.”

According to Donalds, the US military left behind many US citizens and more than $85 million worth of military equipment. He also said the “debacle … only emboldened the worst fantasies of our hegemonic adversaries.” As most people know, the swift removal of US troops allowed the Taliban to retake the nation’s government. In the months since, the new leaders have reintroduced restrictions on women’s rights.

Other GOP members, including Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Rick Crawford (R-AK), and Paul Gosar (R-AZ), have co-sponsored the bill. The proposed legislation would also ask President Biden to release a statement about “the relationship between equipment abandoned in Afghanistan and inflation” according to a draft of the legislation published by Fox News.

House Oversight Committee Holds Hearing About Botched Withdrawal

Donalds introduced this bill to hopefully keep Biden accountable for his actions just as the House Oversight Committee begins its hearing on the withdrawal.

The hearing addressed the White House’s recent 12-page report attempting to blame the chaos of the withdrawal on former President Donald Trump. In the document, Biden fully defends his decisions leading up to and during the military removal, emphasizing his goal was to get all US troops out of Afghanistan, twenty years after the first soldiers arrived.

Republicans haven’t lost sight of Biden’s blunders in the summer of 2022. They are using multiple avenues to uncover the full extent of issues that have resulted from the president’s decision to pull our troops out of Afghanistan.
