Trump Hosts Controversial Dinner, Pence Demands Apology
(RepublicanJournal.org) – Former President Donald Trump recently hosted a dinner at his Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago. The former commander in chief invited some controversial figures to the feast, including Kanye West and Nick Fuentes. The event and guest list have thrown Trump into the fire, with many members of the GOP, including former Vice President Mike Pence, criticizing the former Republican leader.
Pence sat down with Leland Vittert on News Nation’s “On Balance,” where he mentioned he didn’t believe his former boss was racist, bigoted, or anti-Semitic, asserting he wouldn’t have served as his second in command if that had been the case. Regardless, the former vice president declared Trump still needed to apologize for the people he allowed to attend the dinner. West holds anti-Semitic views, and Fuentes is a white nationalist. Pence noted it was wrong for his former boss to invite these individuals, adding Trump should denounce them.
Pence isn’t the only Republican condemning the former commander in chief, but he is the most prominent. Other members of the GOP, like Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), John Thune (R-SD), Rick Scott (R-FL), Joni Ernst (R-IA), and Bill Cassidy (R-LA), have also expressed their dismay for the dinner and the controversial guests who attended.
Was Trump in the wrong, or should he be scrutinized for his choice in dinner guests?
