NHTSA’s Extensive Recall Notice
In a significant move, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a recall involving nearly 653,000 vehicles spanning multiple manufacturers. This recall addresses critical safety issues that could potentially endanger drivers and passengers.
General Motors leads the recall with approximately 450,000 vehicles, including the latest models of Cadillac Escalades and Chevrolet Tahoes, affected by a malfunctioning low brake fluid warning system. The NHTSA emphasizes the importance of addressing this defect promptly to prevent brake failure.
Critical Defects Across Various Models
Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for over 144,000 Mavericks produced between 2022 and 2024 due to an issue where the rearview camera image may freeze when the vehicle is in reverse. “Ford is recalling 144,516 of its 2022-2024 Ford Maverick vehicles that are equipped with a Connected Touch Radio,” NHTSA detailed.
Kia has also reported recalling 12,400 units of its 2024 EV9 model. The issue involves a software error in the remote smart parking assist feature.
Daimler Truck has not been spared. They are recalling 16,889 of their trucks, specifically Freightliner and Western Star models, due to a brake light issue where the lights may not illuminate during automatic brake application events. “Daimler Truck is recalling 16,889 of its vehicles that may be ‘upfitted with a body lighting interface controller and replacement brake lights,’ the NHTSA report said. The heavy-duty truck manufacturing company said that the brake lights ‘may not illuminate when the brakes are automatically applied during an active brake assist event.’”
Owners of the affected vehicles are urged to act promptly. Recall information can be verified through the NHTSA’s database using vehicle identification numbers (VIN). Buyers are encouraged to consult their dealership for free repairs and necessary updates. Ford, for instance, set a notification date by Sept. 30 for Mavericks and by Oct. 7 for F-150 vehicles.
