(RepublicanJournal.org) – Sunday, January 22, marked the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision that once legalized abortions across the nation. Noting that milestone, Vice President Kamala Harris used the date to try and rally support for the pro-choice movement while speaking at a nightclub in Tallahassee, Florida. Nevertheless, during her remarks, she used phrases from the Declaration of Independence while choosing to leave out some very important words.
When speaking at The Moon in Tallahassee, Harris began her speech by grieving the recent shooting in her home state of California. She told the event attendees that the United States “is a promise of freedom and liberty” for everyone. The Vice President then said the Declaration of Independence says that “we are each endowed with the right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

The country’s second in command happened to leave out the first unalienable right highlighted in the Declaration of Independence: life. She also avoided quoting the part of the founding document that says these rights were “endowed by their Creator.”
Harris’ selective word choice during her speech angered many Republicans because she cherry-picked the words from the famous declaration to fit her own political agenda. The simple fact that Harris felt the need to avoid highlighting the American citizen’s right to life shows just how important such freedom is to the anti-abortion movement.
Kamala Harris omits “right to life” when quoting the Declaration of Independence in a pro-abortion speech, and by that very omission she amplifies how abortion assails that fundamental right and she delivers a gift to the pro-life movement.

Harris went on to compare the ongoing political battle for women’s rights to abortion access to past movements against slavery and for women’s rights. She also attacked the Florida legislature for passing an abortion ban on pregnancies after 15 weeks. While the law does not make exceptions for conception occurring from rape, incest, or human trafficking, it does allow doctors to carry out the procedure to save the life of the mother.
All in all, Harris used her platform to misquote one of America’s founding documents to further a political agenda not all Americans support.
