Kamala Harris Claims “Strong Relationship” With North Korea

Kamala Harris's Korea Meeting Has Many Concerned

Kamala Harris’ Takes Dangerous Trip to Korea

(RepublicanJournal.org) – Vice President Kamala Harris has developed an enduring reputation for proneness to gaffes since she took up her current position. The VP has repeatedly fumbled important speaking engagements, particularly while representing the country abroad. Harris’ visit to the demilitarized zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea on Thursday, as a result, had many analysts are worried about what she might say next.

The Next Gaffe?

Vice President Harris’ appearance in the DMZ came in the context of recent missile launches by North Korea. In the early hours of Wednesday, September 28, news broke that the communist nation had released two short-range ballistic missiles. These tests followed another launch on Sunday. All these weapons were fired off the country’s east coast, which faces the United States.  Despite being greeted with missiles upon her visit to North Korea, the VP claimed that the United States has a “strong alliance” with the country – another gaffe, or just a stunt to save face?

Why Did Kamala Harris Make This Trip?

The goal of Harris’ visit was to strengthen ties between South Korea and the US in the context of increased friction with the northern neighbor. Last week, the allies’ navies conducted a joint training operation in the waters adjacent to the east coasts of the Asian countries, running a number of exercises from an aircraft carrier. But the relationship might not be going as well as it looks.

Comments made by South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol following a conversation with President Joe Biden, picked up by a hot mic, have raised deep concern. The leader was heard criticizing unidentified lawmakers for their failure to back an initiative. South Korean officials insist President Yoon was referring to legislators from his own country, but many analysts believe he was talking about the US Congress.

Yet another worry is the Inflation Reduction Act. The Democrat-led legislation includes a provision to lessen the tax burden on individuals purchasing electric vehicles. This, some commentators claim, is a violation of trade rules between the US and South Korea, and one which may have angered officials in the Asian nation.

Kamala Harris’ Past Gaffes

One of the vice president’s most recognizable fumbles during a public conversation also came during a foreign trip, her June 2021 journey to Guatemala and Mexico. When pressed on her failure to visit the US-Mexico border in the context of the ongoing crisis there, Harris laughed and said “I haven’t been to Europe.”

More recently, the VP stood in front of a misspelled sign during a speaking engagement at New Orleans’ Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. It read “Vice President Kamala Harris. New Orleans Lousiana[sic].”

Do you think it’s wise of Joe Biden to continue allowing Kamala Harris to represent the United States on the world stage given her considerable history of gaffes?
