Investigation Underway After Cocaine Found in White House

( – Several members of the Biden family gathered at the White House on July 4 to celebrate America’s Independence. The event included fireworks and music from military bands and A-list performers — but one of the attendees might have brought in some entertainment of their own a few days earlier. Secret Service members discovered a white powder in the West Wing, and preliminary testing revealed the substance was likely cocaine.

Emergency responders evacuated the building at roughly 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, after the discovery. The powder had been in a common area, one fully accessible to visitors, and investigators are still trying to determine how it got there.

President Joe Biden, along with several family members, had been at Camp David for the weekend, arriving back at the White House in time for the Independence Day celebration. The New York Post reports that the attendees included First Lady Jill Biden, First Daughter Ashley Biden, and First Son Hunter Biden, who had his son Beau Jr. with him. There is currently no evidence connecting the president’s son to the discovery, but his history of drug abuse and reckless behavior has pointed much of the suspicion toward him.

Hunter Biden’s substance abuse problems initially came to the surface in 2014. The AP first reported about it when the current commander in chief was still vice president, noting that the elected official’s drug-addicted son had been discharged from the Navy Reserve following a dirty cocaine test. Non-profit group Marco Polo recently released a series of photographs and videos Biden made in 2018, which chronicle Biden’s taste for drugs, loose women, and fast cars. The First Son’s 2021 memoir, “Beautiful Things,” admits to his “years-long battle with drug and alcohol addiction,” although it also claims he has since embraced and maintained his sobriety.

Results from additional testing on the recently discovered substance are still pending. Officials haven’t received authorization to share any further details at this time.
