(RepublicanJournal.org) – Once, not so long ago, opinion polls were Joe Biden’s best friend. When he was running against Donald Trump in the 2020 election, voter surveys showed the challenger to the incumbent cleaning up across the board; there was even talk of him flipping Texas. However, now that he’s the president, these studies have started producing much uglier results for Biden.
A recent poll from Reuters/Ipsos shows President Biden is losing support among independent voters. This demographic was instrumental in his win over Trump and Democratic gains in Congress last November, making the loss of independent support especially concerning. With the 2022 midterms looming, now is a poor time to lose support in any voting bloc, at least from the Democrats’ point of view.
President Biden is shedding support from independents, a crucial voting bloc that helped Democrats win the White House and Congress last year, as a resurgence of COVID-19 cases slows the country's return to normal from the pandemic. https://t.co/njM7eNVbGS

Biden’s COVID-19 response appears to be a big part of the problem. Despite the president’s campaign asking all adults to inoculate, 39% of American residents remain unvaccinated, and the virus continues to take its toll on communities. Only 53% of independents say they approve of his handling of the pandemic.
Of course, the fiasco involving the US withdrawal from Afghanistan likely isn’t helping polling numbers, either. Unfortunately for Biden, the images from Afghanistan remain seared in the nation’s collective memory, and the pandemic issue shows no signs of going away anytime soon. It seems things may get worse for the Commander-in-Chief before they get better.
