(RepublicanJournal.org) – Tyler Christopher, an actor best known for his depiction of Nikolas Cassadine on ABC’s “General Hospital,” died after suffering an unspecified cardiac event at his home in San Diego. The actor reportedly had long-standing struggles with bipolar disorder and alcohol abuse.
Co-star Maurice Benard shared the devastating news on Instagram. He stated that Christopher died on the morning of Tuesday, October 31, as a result of the fatal event. The actor praised his fellow actor’s career as well as Christopher’s advocacy for mental health and substance abuse support. He acknowledged his late friend’s difficulties on both fronts and prayed for family members currently mourning their loss.
Christopher was a staple cast member on “General Hospital” for nearly 20 years, beginning in 1996 and ending with a Daytime Emmy for his work in 2016. He appeared in almost 1,200 episodes. The actor moved on to play roles in “Days of Our Lives” in 2001, staying on for over 160 episodes until he lost his job in 2019, which he admitted was a direct result of his alcohol addiction. Fox News reports that he dealt with delirium tremens, a severe and dangerous form of alcohol withdrawal that can cause hallucinations, seizures, tremors, hypertension, and cardiac irregularities.
The actor’s situation escalated in 2021 to the point where he nearly died after a fall, which caused him to hit his head on a bathtub. He went under the care of his sister, who took guardianship over him during his recovery. Bloomberg Law reported that he sued his sister the following year, claiming he couldn’t account for $40,000 of his funds and alleging that she may have put $10,000 toward her own personal credit cards, used $13,000 to move her family to Ohio, and $5,000 to buy appliances, electronics, and furniture.
Christopher’s last screen appearance was in a made-for-television movie titled “Ice Storm,” which aired in early 2023.
