FBI and DHS Warn of More Potential Attacks on Trump

(RepublicanJournal.org) – Former President Donald Trump came under attack on Saturday, July 13, while he was speaking before a Pennsylvania crowd. It was the first time in more than four decades that an attempt was made on a president’s or former president’s life. However, the FBI and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are warning that it may not end there.

On Monday, July 15, POLITICO reported it had obtained a copy of a Joint Intelligence Bulletin where DHS and the FBI warned of “follow-on or retaliatory acts of violence,” in response to the attempt on Trump’s life. While no specific targets are mentioned, POLITICO notes that the two security bodies specified “that individuals in some online communities have threatened, encouraged, or referenced acts of violence in response to the attempted assassination.”

It further notes that “election-related targets” are those most at risk. That could reference Trump, President Joe Biden, either of their running mates, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has since been granted Secret Service protection.

Federal and local law enforcement agencies are continuing to beef up security efforts in order to prevent such political violence, including lone-wolf attacks. The Justice Department is cracking down on threats made against election facilities and workers.

Trump hasn’t let the assassination attempt stop him. He appeared at the Republican National Committee two days later and named his vice presidential pick, Ohio Senator JD Vance (R).

There are currently two probes into the Secret Service’s security at the Pennsylvania rally. The agency is conducting a review and Biden has ordered an independent review, as well. Additionally, lawmakers have vowed to carry out an investigation into the assassination attempt and have also called for the federal agency’s director, Kimberly Cheatle, to step down. She has, thus far, refused to resign and is expected to testify before the House Oversight Committee in the coming days.
