(RepublicanJournal.org) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) finally responded to the numerous pot shots former President Donald Trump has been making against him — but his reaction might not be what his potential presidential rival was expecting. On a February 28 appearance on Fox’s “The Brian Kilmeade Show,” the popular conservative leader shrugged off Trump’s jabs as “silly season.”

Among the comments he has made against DeSantis, Trump has accused the Florida governor of wanting to cut Social Security and Medicare, “closing up” his state along with its beaches, and being “a RINO in disguise.” The former president has also previously threatened to smear his apparent rival, whom he sometimes calls “Ron DeSanctimonious,” should the fellow conservative formally decide to run against him. Trump stated at the time, “I know more about him than anybody other than perhaps his wife, who is really running his campaign.”
The attention doesn’t appear to bother DeSantis, who began a pro-police tour targeting liberal cities on February 20, according to Fox News. He’s discussing issues he feels are threatening law enforcement, meeting with sheriffs, police chiefs, and other officials on the local level to address problems and offer a show of support to the men and women who work to protect the nation’s streets. In Florida, the governor recently introduced legislation to reinforce current bail laws and increase penalties against sex offenders, issues which are also likely to be on his speaking agenda.
DeSantis has made no announcements regarding his plans for 2024, but some political experts believe the tour — combined with his February 28 autobiography release — is a sign that he’s ready to hit the campaign trail. “The Courage to Be Free” paints the picture of a spirited and capable leader and touts itself as “a rallying cry for every American who wishes to preserve our liberties.” Whether DeSantis is actually preparing to take on the national stage remains an open question — for now.
