(RepublicanJournal.org) – As frustrations have grown with President Joe Biden over the last two years, many people have expressed a wish to get him out of office. US Presidents get four-year terms, so the voting public won’t get the opportunity to oust the current leader until 2024 regardless of how poorly people think he’s doing. There is still one avenue that might see the Democrat leave the White House early: impeachment.
How Joe Biden Might End Up Impeached
The impeachment process requires proof of “high crimes [or] misdemeanors” on the part of the president in order to succeed. Whether any of Joe Biden’s acts as president would rise to this level is unclear.
Another obstacle is the fact that both chambers of Congress would have to approve an impeachment measure for it to pass. The House of Representatives must first vote to approve articles of impeachment by a simple majority, at which point the Senate holds a trial. The upper chamber must vote to convict the commander in chief with a two-thirds majority on the basis of this proceeding. As Democrats are highly unlikely to back an impeachment attempt against their own president, the odds are probably stacked against it happening.
However, some Republicans think it’s a possibility. Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Matt Gaetz (R-FL), two lawmakers regarded as leaning far to the right, have consistently called for the measure for some time now. Increasing numbers of mainstream GOP figures and conservative commentators are starting to add their voices to this chorus.
The Conservatives Calling for Biden To Face Impeachment
One prominent right-winger who thinks impeachment could work is National Review contributor Andrew C. McCarthy. Last month, McCarthy wrote that Biden’s “dereliction of duty” in relation to the ongoing immigration crisis qualifies as a great enough offense against the nation for lawmakers to justify removing him from office.
Another such figure is Ben Domenech, a contributor for The Spectator. Domenech has focused on the Twitter files in his arguments that Biden should face impeachment, noting in particular that his supporting officials attempted to censor information on the platform that did not echo their own stances.

There still isn’t a consensus on this issue by any stretch of the imagination. House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has refused to entertain calls from some hard-right figures in his chamber to consider impeachment proceedings. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) has opined Biden has not committed any high crimes or misdemeanors warranting impeachment during his White House tenure.
Do you think Joe Biden should be impeached? If so, why?
