(RepublicanJournal.org) – The Republican primary race is heating up. There are currently 12 candidates vying for the nomination, including some longshots. One of those is former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. But that hasn’t stopped him from taking cheap potshots at former President Donald Trump, who is currently leading the race.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Christie discussed the upcoming presidential race. Trump was a major topic of conversation. In a not-so-subtle jab, Christie referred to the former president as one “of the most unskilled politicians [he’s] ever met.” In his mind, he believes that Trump doesn’t stand a chance against him because they both know and understand “the New York thing,” the mentality and personality that someone from the New York/New Jersey projects. That, he said, is why Hillary Clinton and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) failed against Trump.
Christie also addressed the fact that Trump has said he won’t show up at the first debate because Fox News is hosting it. He blamed the network for providing his competitor, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, with more coverage than he’s getting. However, Christie believes Trump will show up “because his ego won’t permit him not to.” That debate is scheduled for August 23 in Milwaukee.
Trump has also taken shots at Christie, calling him “sloppy” and a “slob,” which Christie admits bothers him, but he’s not going to let it get to him. The former president also has a lot to say about DeSantis, calling him Ron DeSanctimonious, among others.
Currently, Trump leads the Republican primary race by a lot. As of July 9, he sits at 52.2% in the polls, according to FiveThirtyEight. DeSantis is the next leading contender, but even he sits 28.9% behind the former president. As for Christie? He is polling at a mere 2.5%, in seventh place.
