(RepublicanJournal.org) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have rarely been out of the news over the last year or so. As the agency in charge of administering the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, it regularly published statements on what the public should do to curb the spread and keep each other safe. Earlier this month, however, it hit headlines for an entirely different reason, and we can’t decide whether to be outraged or indulge in a guilty chuckle.
On Thursday, July 1, the CDC released a tweet encouraging parents to keep their kids out of swimming pools if they’re suffering from diarrhea. So far, so good. What drew the attention of social media users was the GIF that came with the tweet. Instead of explaining it, we’ll let you have a look for yourself.
Don’t swim or let your kids swim if sick with diarrhea. One person with diarrhea can contaminate the entire pool. Learn more ways to keep you and those you care about healthy. #HealthySwimming https://t.co/3ogS3ZlQX6 pic.twitter.com/lbN6uvvufu

The accompanying link shares a host of information about diarrhea and swimming. It explains that “tiny amounts of poop” can come from swimmers’ bodies and cause illness to others who come into contact with them in the pool.
So, parents and kids, there you have it. When your tummy is upset, make sure to stay out of the water. If not for your own sake, do it for all the other unsuspecting pool-goers.
