Biden Says He’s “Surprised” After Classified Documents Found

Biden Says He's

( – News recently came to the public’s attention that President Biden had classified documents stowed away at his think tank in DC. After the fiasco with the former president and the FBI raiding his home, one might expect something similar to happen to Biden. However, nothing of the sort has, leading to outrage from Republicans. The president himself recently addressed the issue, claiming he was shocked to learn he kept the documents.

Biden was speaking at a joint press conference with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau when he made his first public remarks about the documents. The president explained his lawyers were cleaning out his office at the University of Pennsylvania, where he once served as an honorary professor, when they stumbled upon 10 classified documents in a box.

Biden noted his lawyers did the right thing by stopping and giving the documents to the National Archives. The president declared that he was “surprised to learn” he had taken any documents to that office, admitting he was unaware of what they contained. Biden mentioned his lawyers advised him against asking what was in the classified documents. The president declared that his administration is “cooperating fully” as the Department of Justice reviews the files.

According to a report from CBS, the documents in question date back to Biden’s time as vice president during the Obama administration, meaning he lacked the necessary power to declassify them. Still, many Republicans, including the former president, are upset by the way the situation is being handled. Much of the rage likely stems from how the FBI handled a similar situation with Donald Trump, raiding his home in Florida to recover classified material.

Republicans are also upset with the fact that Biden’s personal lawyers had made the discovery on November 2, less than a week before the 2022 midterms. Many are demanding answers as to why it took so long for the news to break and why it didn’t happen until after the election. The House Oversight Committee is launching an investigation of its own.
