(RepublicanJournal.org) – There was an attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life on Saturday, July 13. Trump was addressing a rally crowd in Butler, Pennsylvania when he suddenly grabbed his ear and then dropped to the ground. The Secret Service neutralized the shooter, but there are questions as to how he even managed to get in position to take a few shots. Now, the Biden Campaign is being extra cautious and has reportedly canceled some stops on its tour of the country.
Vice President Kamala Harris was scheduled to visit Florida on Tuesday, July 16, for a pro-choice event. Currently on the ballot in the Sunshine State is Measure 4, which would codify the right to abortion. Harris has consistently attacked Trump’s stance on reproductive rights, which she says presents a danger to women in the country.
President Joe Biden has also had to shuffle around events. On Monday, July 15, he was due to speak in Austin, Texas, at the LBJ Presidential Library for the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. According to ABC News, that has been postponed.
Another step the Biden Campaign has taken is to remove its inflammatory ads attacking Trump for his policies and platform. Campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez and co-chair Jennifer O’Malley Dillon issued a directive to staffers within minutes of the attempted shooting. It asked the workers to “refrain from issuing any comments on social media or in public,” and “to pause any proactive campaign communication across all platforms and in all circumstances.”
Biden spoke out shortly after the assassination attempt to condemn the attack. He noted that political violence has no place in the United States — or anywhere — and called on Americans to unite. He also increased security at the Republican National Convention, where Trump announced Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate on Monday, and promised an independent review of the security measures that were in place on Saturday.
