(RepublicanJournal.org) – President Joe Biden shocked the nation when he announced on Sunday, July 21, that he would no longer be seeking the Democratic nomination for the 2024 election. He turned to his second-in-command, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement, and many top Democrats rallied behind her. Republicans, however, aren’t so happy with her and one representative took immediate action, seeking her impeachment.
On Tuesday, July 23, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) announced on his website that he had filed articles of impeachment against Harris “for high crimes and misdemeanors.” He accuses her of “gross incompetence in dealing with the crisis at the southern border.” Back in March 2021, the vice president was tasked with finding the root causes of migration. Harris traveled to many Latin American countries in the months following, meeting with the leaders of several nations, but encounters at the US-Mexico border continued to spiral out of control.
Ogles also accused Harris of betraying Americans’ trust “by failing to exercise her sworn duty to employ the provisions of the 25th Amendment.” The 25th Amendment can be used to remove a sitting president from office if they are deemed incapable of serving. Republicans have long argued that Biden is too old and mentally unfit to lead.
This is the second time that Ogles has filed impeachment articles against Harris. He introduced a resolution against her in the summer of 2023, but it didn’t go anywhere. It’s not clear if he has the support to advance these articles yet.
Harris is also facing another measure. The House Rules Committee moved forward with a resolution filed by Rep. Elise Sefanik (R-NY), also regarding Harris’ failure regarding the border crisis. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) will decide if it will go for a full vote in the Lower Chamber. The majority of Republicans will need to unite and vote in its favor for it to move forward or have any type of impact.
