(RepublicanJournal.org) – Cancer claimed more than 600,000 lives in the United States in 2023. It’s a devastating disease that can sometimes be treated, depending on the type and how advanced it is, but sometimes it’s caught too late. That was the case with a radio personality who recently died.
Tammie Holland was a media veteran in St. Louis, Missouri, where she hosted “This Week with Tammie Holland” and appeared on the Foxy 106.9 FM morning show “Real Breakfast Crew.” She previously worked at “5 On Your Side” as an overnight news anchor.
The radio personality was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer in 2021 and battled the disease for three years until it claimed her life. It had spread to her lungs and eventually her brain. She died on Saturday, July 20, in hospice surrounded by her family and friends. She was 53.
Holland was revered by her co-workers and listeners alike. Tonee Roper, another Foxy 106.9 FM radio personality, said, “She’ll be remembered as a beautiful spirit that touched so many” and for her “charity work on air.” She was a fierce advocate for the disadvantaged and children and at one point joined citizens in a rally for justice following the death of a young girl who died after being shot while doing her homework.
The radio host was well known for her warm personality and “infectious laugh” that regularly took over the airwaves. The radio station held a two-hour tribute the Monday following her death, allowing people to call in and share their stories about Holland and how she affected their lives. It ended with the sign-off, “Thank you, Tammie Holland, for a job well done.”
Her private funeral was held on July 23. However, in a rare move, Holland will lie in state for a public viewing at St. Louis City Hall on July 29. Members of the public can visit and pay their respects from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
