DSA Withdraws Their Support of AOC

(RepublicanJournal.org) – Motormouth congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is well known as an extreme leftist, but it seems even she isn’t radical enough for some people. The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has just pulled the provisional endorsement it gave her last month. The problem? She’s anti-Israel — but she isn’t anti-Israel enough.

When AOC won an overwhelming victory in New York’s 14th Congressional District in November 2018 she became, along with fellow “Squad” member Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) the first member of the DSA to be elected to Congress. Since then, socialists have been proud of the fact she represents their ideology in the legislature. However, the radical left is suddenly falling out of love with her — and it’s all to do with Israel.

Since she was first elected AOC has been a loud advocate of the Palestinians, and that advocacy went into overdrive since Hamas launched its murderous attack against Israel last October. She’s voted against the Biden administration’s military aid to the Jewish state. She’s called Israel’s counter-offensive “genocide” and encouraged pro-Hamas protests at US universities. She’s played a major role in fanning hatred of Israel in this country — but that still isn’t enough for her socialist backers.

On June 23, the DSA National Political Committee voted to endorse AOC’s re-election bid as long as she met four conditions, three of them related to Israel. As well as ordering her to regularly attend the DSA Federal Socialists in Office Committee the organization also told her to publicly:

  • Oppose all funds for Israel, including for the defensive Iron Dome system
  • Oppose any criminalization of “anti-Zionism,” including opposing Israel’s right to exist
  • Support the anti-Israel BDS movement “to end Israeli settler-colonialism”

On July, 10 the DSA announced that, because it had “not seen evidence of AOC meeting these conditions,” it was withdrawing its national endorsement of her “at the request of the NYC-DSA” which is her home chapter and continues to endorse her at the branch level.

The national body specifically slammed her for signing a press release that supports strengthening Israel’s ability to defend its cities from rocket attacks and for chairing a panel that Jewish leaders appeared on. It seems that no matter how far left politicians are, some people will still try to push them even further to the dark side.
