(RepublicanJournal.org) – Every year, the Cannes Film Festival draws around 40,000 people from around the world. Attendees get to see the newest film debuts in one of the festival’s many theaters. This year, one of the films, “The Apprentice,” which depicts former President Donald Trump’s earlier years as a real estate mogul, drew a lot of attention — including Trump’s. His campaign now says he plans to sue.
Spokesman Steven Cheung spoke with the New York Post, saying that the campaign “will be filing a lawsuit to address the blatantly false assertions from these pretend filmmakers.” He further referred to it as “garbage” and “pure fiction.”
“The Apprentice” stars Sebastian Stan as the former president. It’s labeled as a biopic reportedly based on true accounts of Trump’s rise to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s. It’s not a flattering movie by any means, including scenes of him undergoing plastic surgery — including fixing a bald spot — and violently assaulting his first wife, Ivana, when she expressed displeasure.
The film also features Jeremy Strong, who plays Roy Cohn, the former president’s lawyer and fixer, whom he is purported to have abandoned after he contracted AIDS. Maria Bakalova plays Ivana.
Cheung went so far as to say the film is considered “election interference” because its premiere is taking place in an election year, just months before Trump goes head-to-head with President Joe Biden in a rematch of 2020. He said that Democrats can’t win the election any other way, so they’re resorting to illegal tactics.
“The Apprentice” was directed by Ali Abbasi, who said he personally extended an invitation to Trump for a private screening. He also addressed the threat of legal action, saying that though the former president tends to sue “a lot of people,” he doesn’t have a very high success rate, indicating he wasn’t very worried about being sued.
