(RepublicanJournal.org) – Comedian Richard Lewis has passed away. The 76-year-old performer died at home as the result of a heart attack. The actor and stand-up performer most recently starred in HBO Max’s over-the-top comedy, “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” which has won numerous awards and nominations over the course of its run.
Lewis’s IMBd page states that he got his start by landing a stand-up spot on Johnny Carson in 1962. He went on tour from there, with the help of Robert Klein and David Brenner, and then he performed in the film “Diary of a Young Comic,” which incorporated a fictionalized self-depiction of himself and appeared during a “Saturday Night Live” time slot.
The actor has an impressive list of credits, having appeared in 64 movies, television shows, and commercials. Lewis’ most memorable roles include his depiction of Prince John in “Robin Hood: Men in Tights,” his character Peter in “Leaving Las Vegas,” and his self-portrayal in “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” which began airing in 2000 and is currently playing its 2024 season. Other roles include one-shots in “The Simpsons,” “Tales From the Crypt,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” and “Code Black.”
Lewis disclosed in April 2023 that he had been dealing with Parkinson’s disease symptoms for a couple of years. He added that he was hopeful his late-onset would mean the condition, which usually progresses slowly, wouldn’t be an issue. The actor also spent some time recovering from a string of surgeries he’d undergone, including a hip and shoulder replacement and said he’d taken several months to focus on physical therapy.
With just two months in, the year 2024 has already taken several beloved celebrities. They include country music star Toby Keith; actor Carl Weathers, best known for his portrayal of Apollo Creed in “Rocky;” “CBS Sunday Morning” host Charles Osgood; “Starsky & Hutch” star David Soul; and Tony Award-winning actress Glynis Johns, best known for her role in “Mary Poppins” and her breathtaking performance in the Broadway production of “A Little Night Music.”
